Section 01 01 essay
Curriculum, classroom, the syllabus we have, and the syllabus we do not. Essays about what we teach a child, and what we have never thought to teach an adult.
Section 02 01 essay
Around every child stands a village of adults — the teacher in the corridor, the paediatrician with the clipboard, the watchman with the torch. Essays written to them.
Section 03 03 essays
The Indian reality is intra-familial. Roughly nine of every ten accused is someone the child already knows. Essays that take that fact and do not soften it.
Section 04 01 essay
Disclosure, the first hour, the long road after. Essays for the adult a child has chosen to tell, and for the work that begins the next morning.
From the editors
The Watch is the long-form room of Kaaval. We publish one essay at a time, in plain language, on Tuesday evenings. The work is researched, and written for the adults around a child.
The four rooms above are fixed. As we publish, the rooms fill. Empty ones stay open — honest about being empty — until the writing is ready.
